How to cook or make Gram Dhal Curry (Kadala
(1) Gram dhal – 1 cup
(2) Red chilly – 12
(3) Coconut oil – 2 table spoon
(4) Mustard seeds – ¼ tea spoon
(5) Coriander seeds – 2 tea spoons
(6) Ghee – ½ tea spoon
(7) Tomato = 3
(8) Tamarind – equal to size of a lemon
(9) Salt – adjust to taste
Procedure for cooking Gram Dhal Curry (Kadala Parippu Curry)
Wash the gram dhal. Grind the flesh of tomato into a fine paste. Squeeze
the tamarind to make a thick solution. Apply ghee inside a pan and roast
red chilly, coriander seed and cumin seed in that. Then grind them together.
Take a little water in a vessel and boil. Add the gram dhal into that
and boil further so as to cook the dhal. Heat oil and ghee together in
a pan and add mustard seeds to splutter. Add the ground paste of ingredients
into that and heat it. Add the tomato paste into the pan and heat further.
Then add the cooked gram dhal and water. Add tamarind juice and salt and
boil. On becoming thick, stop heating and take the curry from the stove.
