How to make Pulao (Pulavu) at Home

Making Pulao (Pulavu)

(1) Basmati rice – 2 cups
(2) Carrot, Tomato, Potato, Big onion – each 1
(3) Green peas – 2 table spoon
(4) Beans – 3 (chopped into small pieces)
(5) Cardamom – 4
(6) Clove – 4
(7) Cinnamon – 1 piece of 1 inch length
(8) Pepper – 15
(9) Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
(10) Ghee – 4 tea spoons
(11) Water – 4 cups
(12) Salt – adjust to taste                                                                     


Heat the pressure cooker and pour ghee into that. Roast pieces of big onion in that. Then add cardamom, clove, cinnamon and pepper and continue heating. When the smell comes add chopped pieces of carrot, tomato, potato, beans and the green peas. Also add turmeric powder and continue heating. Pour water into the cooker and on boiling, add the washed rice into the cooker without water and add salt also. On boiling, reduce the flame and just close the lid of the cooker. When the rice is about 75% cooked, put the weight of the cooker and continue heating for 5 minutes. Then switch off the stove and when the pressure is released, open the cooker, take the pulao out and serve.
