How to make Piyas Pakkoda at home

Ingredients :


                      (1) Pellets of small onion – ½ cup
                            Pellets of garlic – 10
                            Cumin seed – 1 ½ tea spoon
                       (2) Black gram dhal – 1 cup
                             Green gram dhal – 1 cup
                       (3) Vanaspathi – 6 tea spoons
                             Soda powder – 1 pinch
                             Salt – adjust to taste
                        (4) Rice flour made for Paalappam – 5 cups
                        (5) Gram dhal flour – 1 cup

Procedure :


Grind ingredients under (1) together and mix them with one cup of water and filter out. The filtrate should not contain any fine particles. Cook black gram dhal and green gram dhal in pressure cooker and crush them. Alternatively, they can be soaked in water and ground. Mix vanaspathi to make it non sticky. Add salt and soda powder into them.


Sieve the rice flour and gram dhal flour together. Mix that with the prepared onion mixture and black gram dhal green gram dhal mixture. Mix thoroughly. Fix the slit for pakkoda in the ‘Murukku maker’ and squeeze the above mixture through that into boiling oil. Fry well and collect back. Piyas Pakkoda is ready.
